The Sony Playstation first reached the hands of consumers in 1994, when the first member of the Playstation console family was released in Japan. The following year, Playstation hit shelves worldwide in 1995 as it became a powerhouse for early 3D video gaming in North America. Here at The Modernist Son, we are writing in celebration of twenty-five years of the Playstation brand in Canada and the United States.
As I have mentioned in previous blog entries, I have been playing video games since 2003. Keeping that in mind, the original Playstation console already existed for eight years at this point, as well as the recently launched Playstation 2 which came in the year 2000. Having been born between the years 1981 and 1997, I am considered part of the "millennial" generation. Furthermore, us millennials grew up with consoles such as the Playstation 2, Playstation 3, and even Playstation Portable (2004), depending on when individuals were born. My first experience with Playstation was in 2006. Although it was soon to be succeeded by the Playstation 3 (released in North America by 2007), I received a Playstation 2 for Christmas in 2006 when I was ten years old.

Returning to Christmas holiday 2006, I received a Playstation 2 and Smackdown vs Raw 2007 as a gift. This was my first experience with Playstation as well as a major installment from video games produced by World Wrestling Entertainment. After I opened this gift on Christmas Day, I brought my Playstation 2 into my bedroom, set everything up, and started playing the professional wrestling video game. Furthermore, this was my first experience with Playstation and I ended up playing it until 1:00 in the morning.
Nevertheless, Playstation has provided me with fond memories of childhood. Although my most recent console from the Playstation family was (the) Playstation 3, I will be returning to Playstation at some point following the upcoming release of the Sony Playstation 5. Although I will not be buying the Playstation 5 during its initial release, it will most certainly be on my radar as a video game fanatic. In respect to the upcoming Playstation 5, Sony will offer two versions of the initial console model: first, there will be the standard PS5 which will be going for $499 retail price (estimation). Secondly, there will be the smaller and "all digital" PS5 which will be sold at a price of $299 (another estimation). Despite being a video game collector, I am willing to compromise with a cheaper "all digital" Playstation 5 when the time ultimately comes to upgrade.
However, my priorities are different at the moment. In the near future, my girlfriend and I will be renting our first apartment together and we are in the process of purchasing items for the apartment, at the time of writing this article. Consequently, my financial priorities have shifted for the moment but that does not dismiss the significance of the upcoming release of Sony's Playstation 5 for gamers around the world. The aforementioned fifth installment of the Playstation line of consoles is set to release during the holiday season 2020, and it is safe to say players are rather excited. I have been playing video games for seventeen years, and this generation of gaming consoles will provide players with offers like they have never seen before. I was in my final year of high school when the Playstation 4 was released in 2013, but I was not writing professionally at the time. Despite the world being in a state of global pandemic, I know one thing for certain: the world is ready to play video games.
Note from the author: Hey everyone, I just want to say thank you for checking into this blog entry. I know these are tough times, and I hope everyone is safe and healthy.
