Home-made, Seances and Fun!

Photo by: Brandon Skanes. Looking at the photo above, this was the home-made Ouija board we used. According to my friend's mom, it "wasn't made properly". So, that could explain why things didn't work out the way we wanted.

I mentioned in a blog post earlier today (at the time of writing this article), the concept of seance rituals became popularized in Latin America, as well as Europe during the 1800s. Gothic literature such as "Frankenstein" and "Dracula" were among the most popular books of the time period.

This is a photo of the owner, Brandon Skanes. A spirit box is a device used to communicate with spirits, hoping to get an E.V.P. or electronic voice phenomenon.

With that in mind, some friends and I decided to try this for ourselves. Unfortunately, things didn't go according to plan. More specifically, we created a home-made Ouija board. However, it didn't really work- at all. As a folklorist, I have researched the supernatural in the past. When it comes to participating in a seance ritual, it appears we have much to learn.
