The ability for players to "create a superstar" has been around since pretty much the beginning of popular wrestling video games. Although options were limited in the beginning, this didn't stop players from creating their favourite WCW wrestlers in WWF video games, and vice versa.
WWE 2K22 will offer an updated creation suite, and there will also be a game mode called "My Faction." So, what does this mean? Well, the issue of the creation suite in WWE games allows players to do things the way they want to- they can make the booking decisions WWE might not wish to do in real life. It's all about player experience, as they enter their own fictional world of wrestling.
In terms of the wrestling world, a faction usually consists of 3-4 wrestlers. For instance, The Day New has primarily consisted of Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and Big E. Although their time as a faction started with tag team wrestling, Kingston is a former WWE Champion, Big E is the current WWE Champion (on a different brand), and Woods is the current King of the Ring.
On the NXT brand, wrestling fans will see a common formula for three-person factions. Mandy Rose (leader of Toxic Attraction) is the current NXT Women's Champion, while Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne are the NXT Women's Tag Team Champions. In some cases, wrestling factions have a designated singles wrestler, and those who wrestle as a tag team.
With respect to WWE 2K22, I'm curious as to how this "My Faction" game mode will work? Of course, players will likely be able to play as real life wrestlers in WWE. However, I would love to be able to create 3 to 4 original wrestlers that will takeover the NXT brand.
